I thought it was tough looking for a job when I was in my 20's, but hey, get into your 50's and change careers from secretary to Maintenance technician, that is when the fun starts and moving back from California to boot. When you are older and enter the blue collar workforce you are thought to be a fluff, especially when your main background is being a secretary. Hard for people to take you seriously. OK, OK I got the job because I went to school and got a degree, (Affirmative Action Strikes again) but hey folks I have just as much right to make a good living as any 20 year old male coming out of a technical school, they learn to do absolutely nothing real quick.
I am not a Female Maintenance Technician, I am a Maintenance Technician that happens to be a female......
I CHOSE this field after 37 years of working at "girly" jobs.....
First of all let me introduce you to a couple of guys that take me seriously that I want to work at this type of dirty work.
